Mexican Cuisine in Cabo San Lucas
Since Cabo San Lucas is in Mexico, it has lots of… that’s right, Mexican food. Some of the best local meals and morsels you can stuff in your big hungry mouth include generic but incredible dishes such as quesadillas, tacos, enchiladas, refried beans, and excellent one-pot stews.
But aside from all that, you can find lots of incredible Baja-specific snacks, meals, desserts, and specialties. Some hyper-local highlights include gallo pinto (minced beef stew), chimangos (similar to donuts), and jochos (bacon-wrapped hot dogs).
Some of our favorite joints for excellent, authentic Mexican food in Cabo San Lucas include:
- Las Guacamayas: both Las Guacamayas hangouts are huge local favorites, and are famous for their authentic, affordable, and hearty portions of traditional Mexican food.
- María Jiménez: this homely joint specializes in local comfort foods. If you want to chow down on hearty staples such as tacos, fajitas, and enchiladas, make sure you visit.
- Edith’s Restaurant: owner Edith specializes in delicious regional Baja food, making her restaurant a must-visit for anyone seeking mega-local specialties.
If you prefer street food spots, where you can grab quick, bargain eats for gobbling down shoulder-to-shoulder with locals, make sure you stop at any and all food trucks you see!
Seafood in Cabo San Lucas
Again, no grand prizes for predicting this inclusion. Some of the best seafood you’ll find in Cabo includes shrimp tacos, fish tacos, tuna, lobster, red snapper, chocolate clams (named because of their brown shell), marlin, seafood soup, abalone ceviche, and plenty more.
Some of the best places to get great seafood in Cabo San Lucas include:
- Mariscos Mazatlan: if you want budget-friendly seafood, head here. Some of the most popular dishes include combo platters, fish tacos, and the ever-changing (and perpetually fresh!) catch of the day.
- Solomon’s Landing: massively popular with both tourists and locals, this place started as a taco stand and was once featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
- El Farallon: the food here is great, and the fish is mega-fresh. But tourists mainly come here for the incredible setting—the restaurant is built right into the crumbling cliffs which hang over the ocean’s edge.
Upscale Dining in Cabo San Lucas
Cabo San Lucas is a great place for upscale eats. There are lots of classy restaurants where you can enjoy great food, a better ambiance, and even better service. And because Mexico is so affordable, you can eat luxurious, high-quality food without a massive budget.
Our two favorite upscale restaurants in Cabo San Lucas are:
- Mi Casa: this place has been a must-visit location for more than 20 years. It combines bright decor, bold colors, and a fun atmosphere with a classy, varied menu.
- Sunset Monalisa: with tasting menus, incredible shoreline views, an ocean terrace, and plenty more, this is as upscale as it gets. They even host weddings!
